MY INVOLEMENT & IMPACT AT IUPUI
My Internship @ IUPUI
INShape
P443 INShape IUPUI Personal Training
My INShape experience will be one that I will forever remember. I looked forward to this Internship for quite some time because I was able to get the opportunity to put into place everything that I have learned throughout college. I was able to work with my client for 8-weeks and the opportunity to work along with her, and to design a personal training workout program. I was blessed with a client that also has a love for running and enjoys having fun with exercise. I learned so much throughout INShape such as: how to be flexible with changes, think quickly to adjust workouts, learned how to explain the specific exercise and why we were doing it, and improved time management with the 50 minutes we had while training.
I had a couple of significant learning experiences while with my client. One would be that my client completed a 5k at the end of our training. This is significant because she trusted the process of our training with getting better weekly, proving that the work she was putting in and the work I invested in her training plans was working. The other significant learning experience was for my client to gain confidence levels in herself throughout the 8 weeks. One specific instance was completing a whole length of monkey bars and then saying, "I can do these with my kids at the park now." She gained a lot of confidence, but along the way, I also did in myself as a Personal Trainer. It is such an amazing feeling to see others hit goals that they once didn't think could ever be possible.

Camp Brosius was a week long intensive leadership camp where I had an amazing experience, gained leardership skills and friendships that will last forever. This leadership camp really is what helped me to start stepping out of comfort zones and learn to embrace who I truly am.

Ability Fitness Clinic
P410 IUPUI Adapted Movements Program - Ability Fitness Clinic
The Ability Fitness Clinic is an individualized physical fitness program for young adults in the Indianapolis area with disabilities. For 6 weeks, I was paired with two clients with Down Syndrome where we completed fitness testing, I designed exercise plans, weekly behavior change plans, and fitness goals. I gained so much from this experience and learned so much from my clients. I really learned to be even more patient, how to have more fun, be more creative during exercise, how to modify exercise, to truly just be yourself, and always continue to laugh at yourself.
Pounce the Pavement
P403 Service Learning - IUPUI Pounce the Pavement
Pounce the Pavement is a program at IUPUI where I was a Student Personal Trainer to one client with a goal to complete the Indy Monumental 5k. I completed appropriate cardiovascular fitness testing with my client, also designed and implemented a 5k program. This was an awesome experience to see the benefits of cardiovascular training and being able to watch my client complete a 5k which would have been her first-ever.
